It's easy to get depressed by the 1 percent economy, which every day dispenses huge gains to the very richest--the one percent--but delivers stagnating wages, foreclosures, and layoffs to the rest of us.
On Wednesday security officers in Los Angeles took to the streets to protect the 99 percent. For security officers, protection comes naturally. "We are hard-working security officers who each day provide a great service with distinction to the community we are entrusted to protect," said officer Eduardo Granados.
By taking to the streets, officers themselves found the perfect antidote to one-percent induced despair--hope.
"Today's march made me feel empowered," said security officer Danielle Goodloe.
"Every march I take part in I feel overwhelmed with emotions. To see my colleagues and community members come together is incredible," said officer Kelli Rosengren.
Security officers in Los Angeles are among the officers in ten locations across the country who are speaking out publicly this week in order to improve jobs in the security industry and make sure that the contributions of the 99 percent are recognized.
That should give us all hope.
