Since August 2011, private security officers at Sony Corporation's North American Headquarters in New York City (550 Madison Avenue) have been demanding respect from their employer, U.S. Security Associates (USSA). Unfortunately, Sony has stood silent.

Sony's inaction is problematic. USSA's record is riddled with allegations of serious misconduct. The federal government is investigating USSA over charges of retaliating against workers and thwarting their right to organize a union.Furthermore, USSA is under investigation by the New York State Attorney General for charges of violating state labor law.
Sony's decision to ignore their security officers' request is reflective of a larger, company-wide ethos. Sony continues its relationship with Foxconn, a Chinese product supplier, even though 10 Foxconn employees have committed suicide over the past few years amidst reports of bad working conditions.
Kazuo Hirai, the newly named president and CEO of Sony, has the power and responsibility to end this abuse. We ask that he terminates Sony's contractual relationship with USSA and applies the exemplary Sony Supplier Code of Conduct to contractors as well. This policy states that "suppliers are to respect the rights of workers to associate freely, join labor unions, seek representation and or join workers' councils."
