I was suspended from my job on Monday.
As a security officer for Security Industry Specialists (SIS), I protect Amazon headquarters in Seattle. The reason SIS gave for my suspension is I "rested my feet." But I know the reality.
The reality is I see how poorly SIS treats their workers, and I have been a vocal proponent of uniting with my co-workers to protect our rights on the job. And that's why they retaliated against me.
I moved to Seattle six months ago for the opportunity to serve as a security officer at Amazon headquarters. It looked like a good job.
After beginning my job, however, I quickly discovered how Security Industry Specialists (SIS) really operates. They have cultivated a culture of fear and intimidation, where workers like me are disposable.
But I have also seen how powerful workers can be when we unite together.
All nine members of the Seattle City Council, as well as the Seattle Human Rights Commission, have even spoken out in support of my coworkers and me.
SIS will not silence us.
