Google's decision to drop irresponsible security contractor Security Industry Specialists and instead provide quality, full-time work for its security officers, comes after broad worker protests in Silicon Valley calling on tech companies to do a better job providing opportunities to all tech workers. The Wall Street Journal hailed the decision as
"a move that could reverberate around Silicon Valley."
And Google's hometown paper said:
"...After union protests of its labor policies, the company that employs security guards around Google headquarters, Security Industry Specialists, has had its contract terminated by Google. A Google spokesperson said Google initiated the move and that SIS would no longer provide security for Google after Nov. 1..."
