Statement by SEIU United Service Workers West President David Huerta:

Facebook's decision to raise standards for contracted workers is a direct result of the powerful movement being built by security officers and other service workers in Silicon Valley. We look forward to working with good corporate citizens, like Facebook, who are responding to security officers' call to include all workers in the prosperity they are helping to build.

Recent decisions by Facebook, Apple, and Google prove that security officers and other service workers are key stakeholders in the tech economy.

The only way to ensure that service workers continue to share in the prosperity is to ensure that workers have a collective voice and a union. We hope to work with responsible employers in Silicon Valley to not only raise the wage floor, but also ensure that service workers' right to organize is respected and their voices valued.
