Security officer Michael Johnson and his co-workers protect some of the world’s most successful tech companies, but struggle just to get by. He brought their stories to the people who make real estate decisions for the largest pension fund in the U.S.

The California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) has developed productive working relationships with property owners, such as Commonwealth Partners, in order to implement responsible contracting policies. These policies value the contributions that workers like security officers and janitors make to the value of CalPERS’ buildings and investments.

SEIU USWW President David Huerta introduced Michael, and asked CalPERS to support legislation that would protect California workers against wage theft.
