Since the pandemic started, officers have shown up every day to keep everyone as safe as possible risking their health. Officers protect buildings owned by multi-millionaires and multi-billionaires, yet the value of their work is not reflected in their paychecks or working conditions.
As officer Maria Ortega describes, "Despite the importance of our work, we do not receive hazard pay. Many of us do not have healthcare, fair pay, safe working conditions, training or job protections. How can we be told we are essential when we are treated like we are disposable? I am ready to be treated with respect & it is why I am taking a stand to form our union."
These officers are fighting to win guaranteed yearly raises, fair pay, health insurance and protections from unfair disciplinary measures through a union contract.
